Etsy Store Re-Opened & Art Sale

I decided in the last month to reopen my Etsy store, though renamed and with different artwork, to start selling off some of my old work as well as new. I finally have a local place that does printing for artists, so that will be my next step. Right now I am focusing on selling most of my older stuff before starting the printing process. They are listed at lower prices than usual so that I can move out the old and start with newer, better material. I hate having art sitting around, and god knows it has been.

As per my specialization in birds, I also intend to add more reptiles to my body of work, as well as some fantasy elements. I’m trying to find my niche, and reptiles seem to be under represented in art, unlike birds which are virtually everywhere.

Here is one example I’ve done using my bearded dragon, Gimli as a model. The swirls of color in the background are a bit experimental in the same vein as “The Sleeper” piece that I finished a while back.

In addition to my lowered prices on older work, I’m also having a sale at my Etsy store for 25% off purchase. The coupon code is “25OFF”. This sale will run until 4/30/2017.

Each of the pieces listed is one of a kind, and I do not intend to make prints of any of them. They are unique on their own.

As an added treat, here are two new bird pieces recently finished. These aren’t for sale, but I have intentions of making prints of these available. Please keep watch for that if you are fond of these pieces.

3rd Friday in Safety Harbor

Last month, I attended the 3rd Friday event after a friend hooked me into it. I took my canvas acrylic paintings that I’d done some time back last year, and set up a single table, no tent or anything fancy. I went into it expecting the same outcome of my past experiences of nothing selling. The evening turned out to be more positive than I thought.

I was completely unprepared to display my stuff, but somehow managed anyway. Most of my 8″ x 10″ canvases started to sell about an hour or two into the night. I only have 2-3 left from that night. My larger canvases were a 10″ x 20″, a 22″ x 28″, and two 16″ x 20″s. The 10″ x 20″ sold that night, and one of the 16″ x 20″s sold a few days later through a person I met during the event.

After the event, I started thinking more about how this type of artwork sold so easily, and that I should do more of it for the next event. I am still conflicted as to having two different mediums and styles of art, and how to make that work. I don’t plan on stopping the color pencil work that I do, but rather focusing on where it would sell and what kinds of products (such as prints, bookmarks, coasters, etc.) would help facilitate sales. I do plan to have card sets made of several of my pieces, as both useful and collectible items.

I am currently at work painting more canvases, this time smaller sizes. I’m making not just turtles, but other sea life and tropical based designs. Here are just a few that I’ve completed.

The large 22″ x 28″ seaturtle canvas I had for sale was donated to a good cause with the great people over at Dobermann Rescue of Lake Placid. It will be raffled off to support the rescue of many great Dobies.

Other than painting like crazy, getting new cards made, and writing down ideas, I’m looking forward to next 3rd Friday here in Safety Harbor!

This website is also due for an update as well, so look out for that!

Dart Frog Collection

It’s only November but Xmas is around the corner, and I have it in mind to offer some items for a Holiday Sale. Mostly concerning smaller artworks, both finished or yet to be commissioned. I’m going to start with a collection I’ve had on hand since 2013.

I did a series of drawings of a few very colorful Poison Dart Frog species on small pieces of pastel paper. They are signed by me, ad dated by year, and the species name is listed on the back of each drawing. They aren’t framed, but don’t let that deter you from taking any of them home. These frogs are charming, and I’m only asking $40.00 for each piece. If you buy multiple piece, I will give a discount of 20%.

They are currently in clear plastic sleeves to protect them until you find a frame for them.

Here are some photos of the set, and closeups.

The measurements are roughly 6.5″ x 9″ for each piece.

If they require shipping, those charges will apply. They will be shipped in a non-bendable mailer with padding to protect them during shipment.

I have other items I will be listing for sale during this Holiday season, so please check back for more! Don’t hesitate to send an email!

Sea Turtle Art Pieces, Part 1

I’ve started two 6″ x 9″ color pencil artworks on gray pastel paper of sea turtles. They will be completed with framing and will be sold as a pair once finished.

Here are the starting shots of the two.

Started by outlining the lightest parts of the turtles with a cream color.

Below are a few steps through the process of laying down colors one at a time, and then skipping ahead to the finished product.

I never realized just how much color these big turtles have on their skin. Not to mention the markings on the shells.

Part 2 coming soon. 🙂
